The Apeks MTX-R Regulator Pack – DIN 300 Bar is a purpose-built regulator system engineered for extreme environments where reliability is non-negotiable. Based on the original MTX regulator, the MTX-R was developed in accordance with the United States Navy Experimental Dive Unit extreme cold water test, setting it apart as a regulator designed to operate where many others cannot. Its design innovations allow it to perform in near-freezing water at depths exceeding 60 metres, placing it among a very small group of consumer-available regulators capable of such demanding performance.

Central to the MTX-R’s capability is its innovative first stage design, which actively helps prevent ice build-up around the diaphragm. Ice formation in cold water is a primary cause of regulator free flow, and the MTX-R directly addresses this risk through a combination of materials, shaping, and thermal management. The forged first stage body maximises thermal performance, while the over-moulded first-stage end cap and environmental diaphragm further reduce the likelihood of ice accumulation in extreme conditions. A ribbed diaphragm clamp improves heat exchange, ensuring the regulator continues to perform reliably even in prolonged cold water exposure.

Hose routing and durability are equally prioritised. Angled high-pressure ports allow for optimal hose routing and transmitter fitting, while parallel turret ports improve hose orientation and reduce strain. Both the first and second stages feature superb protection from impact damage, reinforcing the MTX-R’s expedition-ready nature and suitability for harsh environments.

The second stage is deliberately simple, with no dive adjustment controls, reducing complexity and lowering the chance of free flow in demanding conditions. A patented heat exchanger surrounds the valve mechanism, dissipating cold caused by gas expansion while drawing in ambient water warmth to further enhance cold water performance. The inclusion of a double swivel hose increases freedom of movement and comfort, particularly important when diving in bulky exposure protection.

Tested for octopus use to 60 metres in cold water, the Apeks MTX-R Regulator Pack is built for divers who operate in the most challenging conditions and require equipment that has been designed, tested, and proven to perform when it matters most.
